Why Leading Craftsmen?

Today the heritage and craft skills sectors are fragmented and this makes it difficult for customers to source the excellence that is available if only they could find them. Leading Craftsmen is the map that customers need to find the craftsmen they want. For makers and creators we deliver the customer reach they can’t get on their own.

Our story

Edward Goodchild is the co-founder of Leading Craftsmen, and his personal story drives this mission to celebrate British makers and artisans. It started in his school days when he was busy in the wood and metal workshops and not so often on the sports fields He then had an early job as a fibrous plasterer, making ornate cornice work for a leading historic property restoration company.

Meanwhile, having been brought up around horses, it meant that lorinery and saddlery were part of the daily mix. Whilst serving in the Army (The Household Cavalry), he was at the epicentre of British ceremonial pageantry, including riding on the Queen’s Birthday Parade. He is a long-standing Liveryman of a City of London Livery Company, and most recently, he has restored his unique Arts and Crafts house.
